White House National Security Advisor Susan Rice has blamed other countries for the spread of the Ebola virus which some activists believe might be related to US intelligence activities.

Rice made the accusations in an interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press program broadest on Sunday.

“We are pushing very hard for everybody to do more. This is going to take all hands on deck,” she said, adding that other countries “haven’t done enough” to stop the epidemic.

The US official’s comments contradict those by many activists who believe the United States has some role in spreading the virus.

“Newspaper articles and rumors have circulated that the outbreak is a direct result of biological warfare being waged by imperialist countries against the African continent,” said American activist Abayomi Azikiwe in an article last month.

Dr. Cyril Broderick also blamed US Department of Defense (DoD) for the epidemic in an article published in a Liberian newspaper, Daily Observer, saying, the virus was manufactured and spread in West Africa in the guise of vaccine testing.

“Reports narrate stories of the US Department of Defense funding Ebola trials on humans, trials which started just weeks before the Ebola outbreak in Guinea and Sierra Leone,” Broderick wrote.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Friday that 4,033 people have died in the current Ebola outbreak.

There is currently no known cure for Ebola, which is a form of hemorrhagic fever with diarrhea, vomiting, and bleeding as its symptoms.
