April 7, 2015 at 10:23 am UTC

The former Army Commander of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli, who was fired by former Prime Minister Dr. Thomas Thabane and replaced by Lieutenant General Maaparankoe Mahao, is going to retain his position, confirms the Minister of Defence and National Security Tšeliso Mokhosi.

Mokhosi said in Maseru on Tuesday that as the new Minister of Defence in the coalition government comprising seven political parties, they still have trust in Kamoli to command LDF.

"We are going to reinstate Kamoli because we still have trust in him," he said.

Mokhosi insisted that as soon as Kamoli has been reinstated as the Army Commander, they are going to ensure that there is peace and stability in the country and to engage the army in food production initiatives.

Kamoli, Mahao and Commissioner Khothatso TÅ¡ooana of the Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS) were sent on leave of absence in various Southern African Development Community (SADC) member countries ahead of the general elections held on the 28th February this year.

Kamoli has just arrived back in Lesotho from South Africa where he had been for the past five months while TÅ¡ooana and Mahao have yet return.
