Egypt and Saudi FMs Assert "Shared" Regional Interests in Cairo

Saudi Arabia has supported El-Sisi's government politically and economically after the ouster of Morsi in 2013
The Egyptian and Saudi Arabian foreign ministers met in Cairo on Sunday to discuss regional issues, asserting that they share the same views on Syria and Yemen.
This is Adel Al-Jubair's first visit to Cairo since his appointment as Saudi Arabia's foreign minister in April. He is also expected to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi later Sunday.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s FM Sameh Shoukri said in a press conference with Al-Jubair following the meetings that there is a “common will” to continue working “intensively” together to meet their people’s interests.
They asserted that they share the same interests towards the situation in Yemen. Shoukri said he discussed with Al-Jubair the importance of “restoring legitimacy” in the conflict-stricken country.
Egypt is part of an Arab Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen, where Egyptian forces are focusing on securing the Bab El-Mandab Strait on the Red Sea, a strategic point on the international trade route to Egypt's Suez Canal.
Both ministers spoke of offering humanitarian assistance to the people of Yemen and Syria who are suffering from the ongoing crisis. They also stressed the importance of supporting the national opposition in Syria.
Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, has supported the current Egyptian government, following Islamist president Mohamed Morsi's ouster in 2013, with billions of dollars in aid flowing into the country.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia have also recently spearheaded calls for the formation of a joint Arab military force which Arab army commanders are currently discussing.
