Kenya Army Accused of Torturing Somalia Soldiers

Somalia officials have accused Jubland administration and Kenya army serving under AU mission in Somalia of torturing government soldiers in south of Somalia's lower Juba region.

Abdirashid, military officer told Shabelle Media in Mogadishu that Jubaland along with Kenya forces had tortured 3 government soldiers outside Kismayo, adding that soldiers could not move because of they were tortured badly.

He stressed that Kenya army wanted Somalia government soldiers to withdraw from Somalia's lower Juba region, adding that the withdrawal of the soldiers from the region is impossible.

This comes after Somalia's defense minister, Abdulkaadir Sheikh Ali Dini visited military camps outside Kismayo in a bid to integrate Somalia army and interim Jubaland troops.


MP: Remove KDF from Somalia to save money

Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood has called for the withdrawal of Kenyan troops from Somalia, to save on money paid to United Nations Operation in Somalia (Unisom). Mr Dawood said this year's budget was not friendly to the ordinary Kenyan after security docket was allocated a whooping Sh224 billion to boost war against terror group Al-Shabaab.

"What we need is to buy more equipment and establish more command centres along the border once we remove our troops from Somalia," he said. Dawood also warned the country could plunge into recession as a result of the ripple effect in the face of the falling shilling.
