Angola: MPLA Central Committee Members Visit Agostinho Neto Memorial
Luanda — A delegation of the Central Committee (CC) of the ruling MPLA party visited Tuesday the Agostinho Neto Memorial in Luanda, ahead of its 7th Congress set for 17 - 20 August.

The delegation was headed by the party's vice president, Roberto de Almeida, who laid a wreath on the sarcophagus erected in honour of the first president, António Agostinho Neto, in a move also followed by other members of the entourage.

The visiting members of the Central Committee of the ruling party toured the various areas of the Memorial, including the gallery, museum, the 90-year photo exhibition of Fidel Castro and others.

Speaking to the press at the end of the visit, Roberto de Almeida explained that the visit aimed to publicise the life and work of Agostinho Neto.

As for the party's 7th Ordinary Congress, the official said that the event will start with the election of the working commissions of the coordinators and all preparatory activity.

He added that the party's president, José Eduardo dos Santos, will present, in his opening speech, a motion of strategy.

The motion, he said, contained all the steps providing for maintaining the country's progress.

On the financial and economic crisis, Roberto de Almeida said that it is a phenomenon that affects all social classes including outside Angola, adding that efforts are in progress to address the effects of the crisis.

In turn, the secretary general of MPLA, Julião Mateus Paulo "Dino Matross", said the visit meant to show the historical background of the leader and founder of the nation, António Agostinho Neto.

António Agostinho Neto Memorial was built to perpetuate the memory of the first President of Angola, as a leader of liberation struggle, statesman, man of culture and humanist.
